Love Stands Waiting

“A thousand sleepless nights, tear stained pillows, and hours battling on his knees: David and his wife felt helpless.”

Love Stands Waiting

God blessed David and his wife with two beautiful daughters. Every day, David and his wife would do their best to equip their daughters to walk in a life of faith. David would tell his daughters everyday, “Remember whose child you are!” They would smile with child-like faith and point to Heaven. The years passed quickly and, too soon, his eldest, Jessica, was no longer a little girl but a woman. The day came when she gave her heart away to a man who led her away from her faith and family and down a dark road of abuse. When David reached out to her, she would say, “I’m not that same little girl anymore, Daddy.” A thousand sleepless nights, tear stained pillows, and hours battling on his knees: David and his wife felt helpless. It was in those dark times that they reminded themselves to be faithful, strong, and never give up.

Late one night, they received a phone call from Jessica that said, “Mommy and Daddy, can I come home?” David and his wife greeted Jessica at the door with open arms. Though she was trembling, shattered by the world, and torn by abuse, she was home. In the days that followed, Jessica told her father, “Daddy, I never forgot whose child I was. Jesus held me through it all. It was a long journey home, but I will be alright.”

Today, Jessica is healing in the arms of her heavenly father, supported by her earthly father. By her side is her six-year-old “little man of faith,” who David was able to baptize this year. Although the family is still torn, tattered, and broken by this world, they still look towards heaven sand say, “Father, let me not forget who’s child I am.” David will always remember the day his daughter walked back through the doors of his home.  When their eyes met and arms embraced, she didn’t have to ask for forgiveness.  It was already hers! David’s love for her wouldn’t allow him to keep score of failures, sins, or broken promises. She was his child.

“they still look towards heaven and say, “Father, let me not forget who’s child I am.”
