Michelline: Here is the story of my grandson, Parker. He committed suicide last year. He was 15 years old.
Parker and his younger brother Gabe were born to my stepdaughter and their father, who were drug addicts. After years of abandonment and neglect, and their mother being arrested, Parker age 11 and Gabe age 7 came to live with my husband and me. They had been baptized, but now heard the Word of God regularly.
Parker believed in God, but struggled with hopelessness, loss and feeling that he was unlovable. After almost four years, his mother came back into his life. Within 3 months, he changed and in his last letter, shared he felt himself going down the same road as his parents. He got drunk one afternoon and shot himself. The letter he left stated that he did not want to be like them, and that he would rather die than be like them. He lived 24 hours after he tried to take his life.
We prayed with him, and for him, knowing that only Jesus could save him. There is so much more to his story than these 2,500 characters, and there are thousands of Parker’s out there who have been left to fend for themselves in this world.
The past year has been hard. However, as the Bible says, God works all things together for the good of those who are in Christ Jesus. Many good things have come out of his death. His mother is clean and is in church hearing the Word of God. We donated Parker’s organs, and we know of one child who received his lungs is doing well. Gabe will continue to live with me and my husband and he is building a stronger faith in Christ.
There are so many kids in the same situation as Parker and Gabe. They are scared and lonely all the time. They are raising themselves and just trying to survive this world on their own. I pray for them, that they can find God before the ruler of this world gets them. Prayers that God’s arms and feet will reach out and show them love, not judgment, so they can believe life can get better, and to not let the darkness overcome them.
Thanks for letting me share.
